To celebrate their 85th anniversary, The Johnson Humrickhouse Museum has asked artists, professional and amateur, to select an artifact from the collection to use as an inspiration for a new work of art. The new works may encompass any array of media and styles--ceramic, metal, sculpture, watercolor and photography to name a few.

The course will start on the Coshocton Courtsquare and loop through Roscoe and the trails at Lake Park, ending back at the Courtsquare.

134th Annual Keene Parade & Services ~ Sunday, May 29, 2016

Beginning at 9:30am, a Veterans Memorial Church service will be held at Keene United Methodist Church with featured speakers Doris & Terry Casey who both served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Doris served in the mail room at Fort Des Moines, Iowa; while Terry was a Private First Class with the field artillery & destroyers in the European Theatre. The Keene Methodist Youth Fellowship will serve a lunch from 10:30am until Noon in the Church Fellowship Hall. The Veterans Memorial parade will start at Noon led by Grand Marshall Lister Endsley, Walhonding Rube Band and the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Department. Held since 1882, Keene is recognized as the second oldest continuously held Memorial Day Parade in Ohio. The Warsaw American Legion Post #634 will give a 21-Gun Salute at both cemeteries and the Veteran’s Monument.


 

Honoring Armed Forces at Plainfield ~ Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM

The speaker will be Charles R. Snyder, Coshocton County Community Choir Director. The Ridgewood High School Band and choir as well as the Plainfield United Methodist Church Choir will participate. Community members will read the GAR Rituals from the Book of Service and Veterans recognitions. Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard will also participate. Weather permitting services will be held at Plainfield Cemetery; in case of inclement weather, services will be at the Plainfield United Methodist Church. 


Blissfield Services ~ Sunday, May 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM

The speaker will be Woody Wilson, Sgt. First Class Army Military Police Retired 2003, at the Blissfield Cemetery services.  The Killbuck VFW #7079 will conduct military graveside services in honor of Eugene “Gene” Victor Miller. The Walhonding Rube Band will provide music. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held at the Blissfield United Methodist Church.

The speakers will be River View High School SeniorVoice of Democracy Winner, Sarah Kittner; Blue Star Mothers representative, Betty Rochester; and Main Speaker, Gary Baker, Son of Lewis “Ed” Baker former WWII POW. There will be a Tribute to our Fallen Comrades, who have passed away since Memorial Day 2015, which the Coshocton County Honor Guard members performed Military Services.

The Parade will assemble on Railroad Street then continue on Main Street in Warsaw and Services will immediately follow at Valley View Cemetery with speakers River View High School Senior Voice of Democracy Winner, Sarah Kittner & Main Speaker, G.W. Griffis, Marine Corps Korean veteran survivor of “The Chosin Few Reservoir”, as well as music provided by the Walhonding Rube Band.

Coshocton County has been the host of the longest running heritage music festival in Ohio—Dulcimer Days. It is also the second oldest event of its kind in the United States. This year marks the 42nd year of this nationally significant Appalachian musical event. Bring the whole family to share a music-filled weekend with the sounds of Appalachian and traditional music played on mountain dulcimers, hammered dulcimers, bowed psalteries, fiddles, guitars, banjos, and other instruments. The Coshocton Dulcimer Days Festival hosts the Mid-East Regional Mountain and Hammered Dulcimer Championships. The festival consists of workshops, mini-concerts, headliner concert, and jam sessions.

Coshocton has carried the nickname Crowtown for some time. No one seems to know exactly where the nickname came from but it is somehow linked to motorcycles. In 2008, when crows began to congregate for the winter in significant enough numbers to warrant propane cannons and pyrotechnics, the name began to fit like a glove. Coshocton. Crow resort town, Crowtown. This is a funky little festival with an arts & dance twist.

Over 200 singers and musicians from central Ohio participate in this annual Christmas concert. The choir, now in its 45th season, has commissioned a number of arrangements from well-known composers. This concert features the 100-voice adult choir, the children's choir, The Roscoe Brass Quintet, and the 60-voice teen choir, all performing a mix of sacred and secular choral music.

Journey back through time to…The LIVE Nativity. The Live Nativity, in its 15th year, has become a holiday tradition for many in the past. Luminaries light the way as visitors drive through the LIVE scenes depicting the birth of Christ, and other well-known events of His life. This ten minute journey begins at the market place in Bethlehem where the dreaded tax collector awaits, the Inn which is full for the evening leads to the stable where Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus find rest. A host of heavenly angels alert the shepherds guarding there sheep with good news of Jesus’ birth, while the Wise Men worship the newborn Christ child. The journey is completed with scenes of the most told stories about Jesus…the carpenter’s shop, Jesus walking on water, a soldier praying at the cross and Jesus at the tomb.
