Student Requirements:
Prospective students must be 16 or older. During the class, they should wear cotton clothes (jeans, cotton shirts, etc.) or other spark-resistant wear. Nylon is not recommended. Since this is held in an open shop during the winter, a cotton jacket is also recommended, as well as heavy shoes or boots. Required wear includes leather or strong cotton gloves and safety glasses (students should bring their own). Students should expect to get dirty!
Description:
This is a “Basics of Blacksmithing” course designed to provide an introduction to forging metalwork using a hammer and anvil. Students will be exposed to key techniques such as operating coal and gas forges, hammer work, bending, twisting, and more. Proper blacksmith shop safety will also be stressed. There is a maximum of 6 students per class.
